    Default Financial Ombudsman

Apologies if this has been covered before, but I believe that Banks are covered by the Financial Ombudsmanicon Scheme. This should mean that if you register a complaint with a Bank, and it is not resolved to your satisfaction then you may complain to the independent Ombudsman. A decision will then be made as to whether the complaint has been dealt with adequately, and I believe a recommendation will be issued to the Bank for action (or not). If this is similar to the Local Government Scheme, the recommendation is not binding but is always followed in practice.

I work as a Local Government Officer, and Local Government Ombudsman complaints are always treated very seriously throughout the country as far as I'm aware.

Has anyone tried this route, rather than issuing a county courticon claim?

I'd be willing to try and post re my progress if not!

    Any info gratefully received.

The Ombudsmanicon is unlikely to be interested in this and the suggestion by the banks that people go down this route is a diversion. Search the forum under Ombudsman to see why.

I agree that the Local Govt Ombudsman has teeth. The FS Ombudsman is, in my view, little more than a lap cat for tha banks.

The Financial Ombudsmanicon is nothing more than a poacher turned gamekeeper. Some of them in fact are ex-bankers themselves so don't hold your breath whilst waiting for a fair decision

Re: Dansaunders. I would agree with Dansaunders that local authority officers, albeit that they are low ranking do comply with any request for information the Local Gov' Ombudsmanicon requests. In addition, council officers could be made answerable to local ward councillors should they ignore a request. Overall, and there are some 400 local councils in England alone, the local government ombudsman is generally bias
