My girlfriend recently started a car insurance policy with asda online. She got a half decent quote so she decided to take the policy and pay it in full.

Now asda have came back to her and said because she had an accident last year, which was not her fault and was settled by the other parties insurance they want another £250 or they will cancell her policy.

did she declare the non fault accident?

Unfotunatley non fault claims can still increase your premiums.....

Insurance companies statistics show people in an accident (even non fault) are more likely to have another accident quite quickly after!!!

Agree with this, should have been declared when they were obtaining the quote and then they would have been quoted for the correct amount. This would have then enabled them to compare the ASDA premium with others on the correct basis.

The company that administer the ASDA scheme obviously appear not to use CUE (claims underwriting exchange) within their internet quote/policy issue function, but they run the details through CUE when the policy information is transfered to their policy database. They are entitled to do this, in accordance with their t&c's and approach the OP's girlfriend for the extra premium. If this is not paid, then they can cancel the policy. They will work out the time on risk, add their cancellation fee and refund the balance.

I would suggest that the OP's sister does a quotation on the ASDA internet quote system with the accident claim declared and see how this compares with the £250 extra being asked for. If it a lot less than £250, then see if they will reduce the extra they require.

We could do with some help from you.
