    Default My God Im angry...

    ...Im proper raging!!!

My Halifaxicon credit card!!! I phoned up on 23rd Aug to pay my full outstanding balance of £182-50, and added another £10 to cover the costs of the statements they will be sending me . I KNOW there was funds in my bank account to cover this - I paid in cash that morning. I checked this with my bank last night, who agree there was plenty of available cash on that date. VISA people told me the payment had been authorised, So I was happy, and sent off my Data Protection Act letter, telling them to use the money in account to pay for it. Heard nothing further.

Yesterday, I receive a statement from Halifax VISA. It shows the payment received, and credited, and then, on the same day, it says 'payment reversal' of the full amount. Why would the payment be reversed? If they had taken a bad card number, then it would NOT have authorised, yet the monkey who took my payment told me it HAD authorised. I stress again there definately WAS cleared funds in my account.

I call them up, and the bint on the phone has no idea why it was reversed. She tells me that on the day I paid (23rd Aug) they 'took' 2 payments of £182-50, one in the morning and one at evening, from different offices (Leeds and Shannon) Confused? Me too. None of these payments made it as far as my bank account. She checks with my bank (also Halifax) who confirm there was cleared funds in the account, and that VISA did not take the payment. Oh, just to really put a grin on my face, they have charged me for a 'late fee'

I spoke to 'collections' at VISA today, who still dont know why it was refused, but say the late fee stands as I havent made a payment. I ask the guy how is that right, considering I DID make a payment, and that any mistake is theirs, but he couldnt care less. I also ask him why, when I paid on 23rd August, nobody got in touch with me right away to tell me there had been a problem, but instead do nothing for 3 whole weeks, the first I hear of it is when my statement arrives, with a late fee applied to my account. He says 'oh, we called you on 31st Aug (a week later!) but got your answerphone, so we didnt leave a message.' - err, how am I supposed to know you phoned if you didnt leave a message, Einstein? Im not psychic mate....you do know the point of an answerphone, right? LOL what a shower of s**t they really are.

Sadly, I now dont have the money to give them - I thought it was cleared, so spent what was left in my account .

So now, when they try to take the payment for my statements, they will say they cannot until I make a payment, and they wont remove the fee until I make a payment - do I stick to my original date with the Data Protection Act? In my mind, I paid and also gave them money to do the statements. They managed to screw that up, though nobody there seems to know how or why. Fact remains they havent had a payment, and I doubt they will let me put the £10 for the statements onto my account until they have had a payment. I cant make a payment until the end of the month - but the 40 days will be up on 02/10...where do I stand with this?

    Sorry for the rant btw...grrrrr

If you can demonstrate that the funds were available in the account they were supposed to deduct the £10 from on the date of the request, you should be fine. Alternatively, you could tell them that because they messed up that payment, they should offer to waive the fee. The law only says that there is a maximum fee, it doesn't say they're automatically entitled to charge it. Don't take my word alone on this though.
