Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Just a quick question has anyone on here written to their local Mp or MSP? If so what response did you get from them?
I have just fired off a letter to Mohammed Sawar MP, my local MSP Frank MCAveety and some of the list MSP's in the glasgow area regarding this campaign (quiet afternoon in the office)!
I wrote to mine this afternoon (cannibalising the letter from Vampiress) - I added a bit of salt and pepper (I'm a verbose individual...) and will keep the group posted if I get a response.

I willalso post any responses i receive on this thread, I am extremely interested in replies from 2 MSP's namely Tommy Sheridan and Rosie Kane of the SSP!
My local MP is Margaret Becket, so I am certainly eager to get a letter off to her. Is there a link to the letter that Vampiress produced, so I can ensure we are speaking the same language ?

Advice given is purely my opinion, and is not based on any legal training.
They will write (or some that actually believe that they are there for their constituents) to the OFT and/or the TSC.
Mine did, on my behalf. I received letters back from the pair of them. The oft saying it's not really their business ????? And the TSC saying that they were aware of the problem.

I would be surprised if there is variation based on their political flavour. It would be more interesting to collate reponsibilities against board membership..

When you enter your postcode, and hit 'write' it brings up your own MP. However, TWFY also has links to the MP e-address at parliament.
Another great tip - if you want to write to a minister, and don't live in the constituency, go to the ministers own website (available on TWFY). There you will find the constituency address and postcode(!!!)...which can be enetered when hitting 'write' in http://www.writetothem.com/
Sneaky...!!!

Actually...may I suggest we have a sticky, containing a list of all MPs that have been contacted to date?
MP Name - Constituency - Position (if appropriate)
...and a little tick box if they have replied...
Thanks.

Yes - sort of. Certainly a count of submissions to MPs could be run, although whether Dave has time for this is a different question...! However, a response ratio measured by sent/received would be an interesting statistic...

Thank you for your recent e-mail regarding your concern over the lack of security that the banks maintain in their postal system.
I do understand your concerns when cases of identity theft appear to be on the increase. Obviously each bank is responsible for its own policy on this but I have taken the opportunity of alerting Ministers at the Department of Trade and Industry.
I shall be in touch with you again when I have a reply.

I wrote to Robert Key, MP for Salisbury and got the following response:
"Thank you for your email of 27 March.
I understand your soncerns regarding bank charges on unauthorised overdrafts. You are probably aware of the report by Which? magazine that found that UK banks charged their customers £3 billion for unauthorised overdrafts during the past year.
You may be aware that this issue was investigated by the all-party House of Commons Treasury Committee in 2002. They welcomed the recommendation of the Competition Commission for an undertaking, by the eight main clearing groups, to include transparency of overdraft charges on bank statements. The Government noted the conclusions and recommendations made to the industry on transparency in relation to bank literature the Government notes that there are commitments in the Banking Code, to which all high street banks subscribe, concerning the provision of information to consumers, which should be clear and in plain language.
I appreciate that there are valid concerns about the way the banking sector treats its customers, as the Which? report demonstrates. As you state, the issue of charges on unauthorised overdrafts is currently the subject of legal action, and it would e inappropriate for me to comment on the legality of the banks' actions before the outcome of all such cases is known. Nevertheless, I will study any legal rulings with interest."
