Anyone reommend car insurance for modified car for 19 year old with 2 years driving record as named driver. Tried one company who advertised specialist Young Driver 19plus and 2 years driving experience but said they would not as it was a high risk postcode.

Thanks Rebel - yes have tried all of these but were coming out at over £4000 and most would not quote because of modifications which is why I tried one that specialises in young driver and modified cars so was really confused when they would not quote because of high risk postcode - YO13

No - thanks - will try this but I think I'm banging my head against a brick wall. I just tried to get my own car insured with the same company and they said that because of the high risk postcode I had to guarantee that I would park the car on the drive or in the garage or I would not be covered. I said what if I just parked outside on the road for two minutes and they said I would not be covered - I suppose it will be easier to get a taxi - I just don't understand their reasoning. They were adamant that I would not be covered if I parked on the road.

I don't think my 17 year old who has just passed his test stands a chance of ever having a car - I think it will be cheaper to employ a full time chauffeur!!!

Just tried to get a quote for modified car but told that they won't quote for an engine replacement for his age - the car used to be his grandmother's!!!

Yes, I know, but it's a shame all young drivers are classed as "boy racers". My son uses the car to drive to his part time work, drama classes, Air training corps, to drive to airfield to fly aeroplanes etc and to take his grandmother shopping. He is currently studying motor vehicle maintenance and has used his car to work on at college. He is waiting to join the police force and will not be a boy racer as he does not want anything to interfere with his choice of career. It used to be his grandmother's car and he has tried to just make it look less like his grandmother's car.

Statistically teenage boys with 2 years or less driving experience cause more accidents.

Funny how Shiela's wheels had to stop discriminating against men but it can still be done against young people.

It may be challenged under age discrimination laws but until then teenagers who want to drive modified cars will have to pay more.
