Hello guys and gals i hope some one can help me with some advise

I have a four bedroom council house in birmingham with my 2 kids so currently have a room spare

My family live in shropshire and we would love to be closer to them

we're not sure how we stand ?

There is a family that would like to move to our house she has 2 children and 3 bedrooms

Question is would the council let us do the exchange

could they say it would be under occupied ?

my argument is we have a bedroom spare at the moment ?

its like for like so to sum it up both families have 3 members

sorry if i desribed that bad

Councils will normally refuse mutual exchanges where they would result in overcrowding or unreasonable underoccupation.

Whether there is unreasonable underoccupation would be based upon comparison ofthe dwelling against the size required to adequately accommodate the household.

This will depend upon the gender and ages of the children. For example if you had a 15 year old son and a 3 year old daughter, you would normally require a 3 bedroom property as a minimum, however if you had a 6 year old son and a 4 year old son, a 2 bedroom property could be considered as adequate accommodation for the household.
