:sad:in july last year,my stepson took my car without my consent.he was drunk and crashed into a nearby garden and garage.he was convicted in court for theft and drink driving.at court he was asked if there was a claim for damages, there was none.before he attended court he went to the house to offer to pay for the damage, but was told that they would claim on house insurance.i recieved my new quote for this years insurance only to find my no claims had gone because thy paid out on a third party claim.i rang the company to say it was nothing to do with me,and was told that it would still stand.i am now in aposition where i can not afford to insure my car.help?

Yes they would have claimed on their Home Insurance but their Home Insurers would have claimed back their outlay from your Car Insurance. This would happen automatically and the home owner may not even be aware that their Insurers have done this. Under the road traffic acts, I believe that the Insurer covering the car would automatically have a liability for the damage, even though the car has been taken without your consent.

Nothing you can do about this. You will just have to shop around for Insurance to see if you can obtain an affordable premium elsewhere.

We could do with some help from you.

Hi

Welcome to The Consumer Action Group.

I am just letting you know that as you haven't had any replies to your post yet, it might be better if you post your message again in an appropriate sub-forum. You will get lots of help there.

Also take some time to read around the forum and get used to the layout. It is a big forum and takes a lot of getting used to.

Once you start to find your way, you will soon realise that it is fairly easy to get round and to get the help you need.

It can be bit confusing at first.

Please be advised that my time will be limited for the next few weeks. Thanks for your understanding.
