Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I thought i would just post this on here for people to see about the Vanquis Credit Card. I found a leaflet in a Cafe yesterday and was shocked to see how much their basic Credut Card interest is. Their website says 39.9% APR . .. The leaflet said 49.9% APR with a £2000 credit limit. This sort of thing should be stopped right now. Here is a snippet from their website about being responsible:
Vanquis Bank is a responsible lender and we provide our customers with support, education and help in controlling their spending. We do this by being transparent about our products and pricing, and providing high levels of customer service. Vanquis Bank is part of Provident Financial plc, a leading international company providing financial products to thousands of people across the world.
Vanquis Visa card is issued by Vanquis Bank Limited whose registered office is at Colonnade, Sunbridge Road, Bradford BD1 2LQ. Registered Number 2558509 England.
I love the bit about Educating customers and help in controlling their spending.
A Responsible Lender. If anyone has one of these cards please let me know how you sleep at night, because this to me, is extortion and they should be pulled up about it. Grrrrrrrrrr Grinds teeth in disgust . .
Hi Nightmare for banks.. These are indeed the Provident. They prey on people with bad or no credit rating. Just by posting this, i hope to spare someone some serious grief in the future. How many people on here understood APR and read the small print?. A lot more now i bet. Getting credit with this lot seems too easy. Loan sharks in a bigger building than Dodgy Dave around the corner..
Take care . .keep on at em .. Ukaviator
These are the people who pray on desperation, they had a collector to came to the pub where I worked to collect weekly 'loan' payments off people, all the blokes used to dive into the toilets when he came in and I had to keep a straight face and tell him I hadn't seen them!
Seems they've moved on a bit since those days - but their rip of charges haven't changed!

Hockery- welcome to CAG.
Tell us some more and we will see if we can help you.
The recent Bank of England credit- conditions survey revealed that banks were surprised by the level of bad debts run up on their credit cards in the second quarter of the year. Demand for credit cards also increased as banks tightened their lending criteria across the board.
Provident Financial has been inundated with requests for its Vanquis credit card, even though it charges a whopping 39.9% annual interest rate — more than double the industry average. The card is targeted at sub-prime consumers, and priced accordingly. Yet “prime” customers are washing up at Vanquis after being rejected elsewhere.
I have a card with Vanquis, yes the interest rate is high, yet no one else will give me a card. Mainly due to lack of history in my report it would seem as the problems I had in the past are no longer on my Experian report.
Sure they charge high interest but if I use it for a low amount and repay all each month, the interest will not affect me and it will help build my credit report.
The trouble is MK one, it would be seen on your credit file as a sub prime card. The credit limit is about £200, do you pay any interest on this card, if you pay back in full every month?
From all of the advice I have read, a sub prime card is helpful for around 6 months, after which you can look at other cards. The way I look at it is, spend a small amount every month (£10 - £20), clear it next pay day. That way other lenders will see you are paying every month on time. It also means I do not get stung by the interest which is as you say punitively high.
In the next week, I will clear my final default so my record should begin to look better.

Hello again Hockery. Thanks for the pm but we cant give advice by that method. Can you please post some more details so that we can see how we can help. If necessary, I will merge the posts so that you have your own thread, if you are unsure how to start your own. Don't worry as there are some fantastic people on here with lots of experience and it is better to share and get the help you need. Regards, Kenny
