Default What value for a document

What value would you put on a document that has been sent 1st class recorded.

Royal Mail are unable to provide me with a signatureicon as proof of delivery which after all is what the additional 68 pence I payed was for.

The letter was to good old Aktive Kapital and my frustration is that if I want proof of a signature later on if they start getting funny, I can't provide one, due to Royal Mails incompetence.

I am sick to death of the high percentage of recorded delivery letters I send that do not get signed for, Royal Mail are being payed for a service that they clearly are not providing.

I know the sure way is to send post by registered but why should I when Royal Mail have a Recorded Delivery service.

I am from now on going to claim compensation for every letter that I send which they are unable to provide a signature for. Maybe if more Royal Mail customers were to do the same they might just think about getting there act together, and start providing the service that we the customer are paying for.

The maximum compensation for a recorded delivery letter is 30.00 but how an earth does one put a value on a letter to a CRA.

    Regards

Has the letter actually been delivered?

In any case Royal Mail will only pay the actual costs, so just a few pence for your piece of paper and ink - they will not pay for time, etc.

mmm tough one i think they will have covered their bases with the £30. I agree though if we all complain and ask for compenstion they might try harder.

The maximum is actually £32 but you wouldn't get anywhere near that amount if the item just contained a letter.

So basically Royal Mail can claim to run a service which you are of course charged for and not carry it out at all.

Just does seem right to me, If you took your car in for a full service to be carried out and the garage carried out a minor service you would want your money back.

I would like to think that I could claim back the postage plus a sensible figure as compensation for the hassle of re-writing the letter again and for the delay that has been incurred, the reciepient has not responded to it yet and this was 2 week ago now.

That's what should happen and what one would reasonably expect. However Royal Mail are quite unique in that they have their own law to protect them - The Postal Services Act.

Recorded Delivery, for example, is provided under Section 89 of The Postal Services Act and is not a contractual service. The Act covers them to have no liability in respect of service failures.

The compensation policy covered by The Act is for loss or damage only, not delay, and not for failing to provide a signatureicon - and all this covers you for is the value of the item up to a maximum of 100x basic First Class stamp cost (currently £32).

I agree, you should be able to claim for time etc, but I know they won't pay, and with the above in mind you would find yourself losing the battle.

This is why I ALWAYS say dont use recorded delivery its pointless, if you need proof then a certificate of posting (free!) is usually enough and if you are desperate for signed for then use registered (special delivery) from £3.80 guaranteed next day before 1400 or your money back

most people i know have had 12 first class stamps - you could try saying it was a payment (cheque not cash) and as it hasnt been delivered you got charged £30 as a result

£30 + £1 postage = £31 to you - tho i'm sure you would probably have to prove his to them...

They wouldn't pay bank fees as it is a "consequential loss" not covered by their compensation policy.

Apart from that what you are suggesting would be fraud and goes against the ethics of this site.
