Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I sent a dpa request, then a second reminder to ge capital re a store card ( Dorothy perkins) the account was paid off a few years ago, but I know that I incurred quite a few bank charges at the time, as I had just had my son and was not working.
The thing is, I don't know how much they owe me as they have not sent me my statements. The 40 days are now fast approaching, and I am not sure what I should do. I am just about to write to them with my final letter to say I will be proceeding to cc, but what should I claim for Also, as they are like a finance company, as opposed to a bank (?)can I assume that its correct that the Ombudsman will not get involved in their non complience to provide the info to me?
I would really appreciate a reply to this, as I don't want things to go wrong at this stage.
Not the Ombudsman, the Information Commissioner. He's the one who'll deal with non complaince with a DPA request.
Did you send £10 with your request? They could be playing silly buggers and then say: "oh, but the clock doesn't start ticking until we've been paid the fee."
It could be worth giving them a call, I had to with Ikea, and they denied receiving my letters... But when I said "tough, you still only have 2 days left", they sent me the info pretty sharpish. I't also extremely satisfying having THEM squirm for a change .
