Hi
I've been reading the posts about barclaycard and wondering what I need to do as the account I had with them was closed at the end of 2003.
I need my statements from the time I opened the account until the time I closed it. Do you think I will have problems getting them? What is the best way to go about it? do I just send the data protection letter as usual?
The normal start is to send the Access request under the provisions od the Data Protection Act. However experience has informed us that Barclaycard are saying that "statments prior to May 2004 are stored on Microfiche" and "are not readily accessible within the meaning of the Data Protection Act".
They do offer to send you these statement at £3 per statement.
This would cover all of your statements.
I am not aware of a fruitful challenge tothis yet but it is early days. I have just had one of these letters and so I shall be challenging this on the basis that if they statements are "accessible" for the purposes of charging me £3 a go, they are "accessible" for the purposes of the DPA.
We shall see what happens.
Your options at the moment are to go through the Access request process and then challenge the "accessibility", pay their £3 per statement or wait till one of us other gladiators get a resolution of the "accessibility" issue.
Hi thanks for that I will send access request letter to them and see what happens .Did you send £10 and did they return it when they did not send you the statements?

I sent the £10 and as they did send some statements (May 2004 onwards) they did not return the £10.
I am not sure what they will do if they cannot (according to them) send you anything. It will be interesting to discover.
