i have been with Yes car insurance for a few years now. a couple of weeks ago they sent me a renewal quote for my car. the renewal was very high so i went on price comparisson web site an found a policy for almost £180 cheeper. my origional policy was to finish on sunday 8th August 2010. i renewed mt policy with another agency the same day vis the internet. unfortunatly Yes insurance doesnt open on sundays so i had to wait till the monday 9th to cancel. i have been informed that i have to pay £4.80 for the day i used and another £20 for cancellation. i couldnt advise the company on the same day as they didnt trade that day. question is, is that right as per the 14 day cooling off period, or does that not apply to renewals ??

Yes they are correct. You had to contact them before the renewal date if you did not wish to renew.

I think you will just have to put this down to experience, not to leave it until the renewal date, to decide on what you wanted to do.

You could send them a letter explaining that you had already arranged cover elsewhere (enclose a copy) and due to them not being open on the renewal date, your cancellation instruction was a day late. They might them look at this, as you should not really be Insurerd twice.

We could do with some help from you.
