Default Just received Letter of 'Notification of Visit'

    Hi,

I have just received a letter this morning headed 'Notification of Visit' from jobcentreplus. It states that they are coming to see me next Wednesday and it is imprtant that I be in ! They say a 'query' has arisen regarding my claim anad they need to ensure the payemnts are correct and it is important that they discuss the matter with me. They also say I should note that where there is doubt about whether the conditions for entitlement are met they can suspend my benefit.

What the hell is all this about. I have never had any issues for years with them other than my health degenerating ! Could someone please throw some light on this for me please.

    JB

    Sure - that's a compliance visit.

Either someone has reported you for allegedly claiming fraudulently or a data match has thrown something suspicious up.

Compliance is used for following up an allegation or data match where nothing substantial can be found which proves fraud, to see if there is anything in it.

It's impossible to hazard a guess at what the allegation could be. It could be anything from undeclared partner/work/income/savings/improvement in condition. What they will ask will depend largely on what the allegation is. They may ask to see evidence of income/savings, particularly if the allegation is one of undeclared income/savings. An account statement would suffice, unless you work in which case, wage slips would also be needed.

In my experience, most of these allegations which involve a compliance visit are determined to be unfounded following the visit, and if there is nothing in the paragraph above that fits, I wouldn't be too concerned about it. I've had compliance myself, it's frightening when you get a letter, I know I racked my brains thinking what it could possibly be. I was lucky with mine though - they decided I wasn't getting enough income and increased my award.

My advice is based on my opinion, my experience and my education. I do not profess to be an expert in any given field. If requested, I will provide a link where possible to relevant legislation or guidance, so that advice provided can be confirmed and I do encourage others to follow those links for their own peace of mind.
