Default One way to avoid Paid Item Charge for cheques

Hi all, haven't been able to post for a while.Too busy trying to open another account(nightmare!) & also going for bankruptcy. However looking at my online account(yes I can still access it!) I realised that if you are overdrawn Alliance & Leicester do not charge for guaranteed cheques that are under £10.So if you have a cheque guarantee card;where a payment is say £50 just make out five cheques for £9 each & one for £5.That's £50 paid but no charges!Hope this helps someone avoid these charges before they cripple you.Best wishes,Graham.
PS I dare say they will cotton on to this pretty quick so get in first!

That's not the point of forum really - the whole concept of charges above what it costs the bank is unlawful, and we want banks to disclose their real costs.
My cheque card is for £250 so I could have writers cramp on this basis every time I fill up my freezer.

Nice thought though and best wishes

I would guess that you won't have your card much longer!!!!

I appreciate what you're saying Gizmo but,as I said in my post,it is these charges that are crippling people in the first place. We all know how long it takes to get the money back & if your skint you can't afford to wait.So avoid them before they start. Let's face it they are using your money to pay their charges,so why not use their money to pay your bills!

The Consumer Action Group disassociates itself from this behaviour.

We are striving to achieve the moral high ground against a regime of unlawful actions - your post does absolutely nothing to further our cause.
