I am a named driver on the future dad-in-law's motability insurance. He is keen for me to use the car to take my kids on day trips etc. I am reluctant to do so as I'm not sure if my own personal use is permitted under the motability scheme. I have always been of the opinion that named drivers can only drive the car for the benefit of the person who is the member of the scheme.

Can anyone clarify the position?

That is the case the driving has to be of some benefit to the motability claimant.

It is a very grey area though if it can be proved that your childrens enjoyment is of benefit to you dad in law you may be ok as i say though it is a grey area.

Maybe a good idea to phone motability and seek there take on this matter.

Regards
