Default Leaflet / Card drops in (or around) branches?

....... containing something along the lines of -

"Have you been charged by your bank for exceeding overdrafticon limits or returned Direct Debits, etc? As a disproportionate penalty, these charges are unlawful and YOU CAN CLAIM THEM BACK! See www.consumeractiongroup.c o.uk to find out how."

I was thinking this while I was in the (huge, as ever) queue at scummy Lloydsicon the other day, as a way of getting the message about the banks charges into an even wider domain. Even though public awareness of the rip off is growing due to all the recent press and TV coverage, you can bet that the vast majority of the people stood in the banks vast queues at any one time have'nt got a clue about the nature of their charges, and just 'tut' and pay them at the end of every month.

I'm sure there may be some legal issues involved with this - particularly if the CAGicon address was used - but any thoughts would be appreciated

Thumbs up Re: Leaflet / Card drops in (or around) branches?

If you just had a template leaflet in word, people could print them and go for a trip into town. Perfect for people like me who is a lazy bogger, works evenings and has nothing to do during the day! lol - I'd do it, but it's just if CAGicon would get into trouble if I stood outside my bank and attempted to give their customers this info!!!

It's been discussed before and I think the main problem revolved around one word, believe it or not: Litter.

    Mad, isn't it.

Apologies to people who I was in the process of helping, I may be gone some time.

    Hi all

We like the idea, but as Bookworm says, it has been discussed before and discounted. We need to be aware of the potential for banks finding anything with which to fight back at us, since they don't have much going for them!

There is no way we could allow leafleting inside a bank (unless a manager had given permission!!) and even outside on the streets you would find that people would take your leaflet and drop it once out of your site - some people would rather do that then say no to you.

You're also up against the traditional 'salesmen' who pester shoppers on a regular basis, so when people see you with leaflets their first choice is likely to be a 20degree turn to avoid you.

But that's not the point. We have to maintain a position that gives no ammunition, and a street full of leaflets promoting our cause is not, well - 'promoting' - is it?

"Don't get caught" - not "get away with". A big difference.

So, postboxes are OK, but bank-territory and public spaces are off-limits?

    Got it.

At one point, I was vaguely tempted to get a banner done up saying "THIEVES" in large letters to hang in the vicinity of a bank. Of course, they can't sue for libel, since you can only do that if the statement is patently false

Of course, I do not encourage anyone to actually do that, just in case the banks do decide to try it on anyway - libel trials in general aren't nice. This spurred me to another random thought, which I will not reveal in this part of the forum just in case someone actually does try it.

What about drumming up donations to finance a legitimate bill-board advert. Right at the end of the high street where the banks are in a major city would be good.

I think it's fair to say we barely get enough to run the site, never mind funding a billboard advert....

How about some t shirts? i could have a nose round and see if i can get a good price. I'd love to walk into my bank wearing one of them. I'm sure they already dislike me anyway since i go there so often. besides, it would be a chance to show off my assets! I can just see it now... great big letters across my chest saying: "your bank is screwing you" or words to that affect.
