Hi all,

In April my van was stolen, I've had no end of problems trying to get the insurance to pay up. 1st the broker refused a courtesy van even though I was promised I'd never be left without a vehicle. This caused my courier firm to go under. Now they are saying I owe them £950 odd for the remainder of the policy, even though the insurance company is only offering £900 for my van less £500 excess?? Surely this can't be right??

If it is then the insurance wasn't worth having. Was I mis-sold a policy??

PLEASE HELP........mad.gif

From an initial reading of your post it doesn't sound to me like you were mis-sold a policy.

Courtesy cars are NOT normally provided for theft claims, I don't know what words your broker used to describe the courtesy car benefit, but the terms and conditions of your policy should have defined it in writing,

It is also quite common for a policy to cost more than the value of the actual vehicle, you were not only insuring the vehicle but also the risk of any damage you caused to third party property or injury. Take the case of a young driver taking their first policy and insuring an old car that is only worth £500, a basic third party policy is likely to cost in excess of £1500 and a comprehensive policy probably in excess of £2000.

You say the insurance wasn't worth having, what if it hadn't been stolen and you had driven in to another car or a group of people at the side of the road, I think you would find the policy was worth having then.
