Hi All.

I know this may be a really silly question but......

i had a small car accident last year and my car was written off and i was offered £1275 from the ins co. After my excess i received £1075.

I had hit another car and i am told their damage came to £650.00. It was my fault.

I now plan to get another car and when it comes to declaring previous accidents and claims amounts what figure do i say. Is it all of it? £1925.00

Or what was only offered to me £1275 or the amount i received £1075. I am thinking it should just be the amount i claimed not the other driver. Any help would be appreciated as i have never had an accident or claim before and i dont want to jeopardise my future insurance.

Hello there and welcome to CAG. I'm sure an insurance person will be along soon, but they may be out drowning their sorrows for all I know, it being Friday night :). Motor is not my field, sadly.

For what it's worth, it doesn't seem a silly question to me and I'm sure there is a simple answer. If you have a particular company in mind, have you asked them this question?

Thank you Honeybee13. I was checking prices via confused.com etc and so it looks like a standard question asked. I can check with any of the insurance company next week but just when i was searching this afternoon, it occurred to me that i might actually be putting in wrong figures. As i had never posted here before. i thought it would be a good time to have a go. :) Thanks

They don't want to know exact figures. All they want to know is date of claim, it was a fault claim and the overall payout was £2000.

Most Insurers use the Claims Underwriting Exchange (CUE), so they will just note that you have declared the claim that is shown on record. They won't be bothered whether it was £1200 or £2000, it is the date of the claim that is the most important information.

We could do with some help from you.
