Hi all,

A couple of weeks ago we got our renewal premium through from More Than for the car insurance and it hd shot up by around £300.

Obviously i was rather surprised so i called up and was told there was a claim on the insurance and the no-claims had therefore been compromised. As far as i was aware there should not have been any claim on the insurance as there has been no accident and no-one in the house has mentioned it (I'm a named driver, my mum is the policy holder).

Anyway at the time i called by myself and the advisor told me they need to speak to the policy holder and couldn't tell me any details.

I called up later with my mum and after being transferred to around 5 departments someone eventually gave me the direct number of the advisor processing the claim. They told me the claim was by a doctor so had anyone been to hospital etc. around the 22nd of February. I asked my mum to check if she had any hospital appointments around that time, she checked in her diary and said no. The advisor said to me she just seen the claimant is a Doctor and has listed 'Work car park' as location so it could be GP car park etc.

She explained they can't close the claim just yet ad ned to investigate. She also explained there is a witness. After getting off the phone, i explained to my mum it wasn't definitively a hospital car park,it could be a GP car park or something because the claimant was a Doctor.

She then looks at me, surprised and says 'oh i know what it could be!'. angry-smiley-030.gif I am absolutely raging at this point.

She tells me she had a GP appointment and accidentally bumped a car while parking in an awkward position. The security guard was there and said to leave insurance details because that was a doctor's car. My mum explained to him that there was no mark, scratch or bump on the car and not to take details. She assures me this is the case although i am extremely annoyed at her! She then went in and spoke to the receptionists to explain and they said it will be OK we will explain. However, someone must have took our registration plate while she was inside in her appointment.

Anyway sorry for the ling-winded post but i have two questions:

1. I am going to contest the claim as i think the doctor might be trying it on. My dad maintains we still have our 2 years NCB despite the claim, we just don't get a 3 years NCB. Is he right? I would have thought we lost it all.

2. I have been on various price comparison sights and i manage to get quotes that are the cheapest at around £980 which is around £300 pound more expensive than our quote for last year (when i exclude the info of the 'claim' it goes down only by around £50 so still v. expensive).

Now i have read that premiums will go up this year by 10-15% but ours is an increase of 40%! My mum and dad on the policy is a decent £400 but i am 23 and male so i make up the rest of the increase which i would expect obviously but i don't get why it is so much dearer than last year.

A company can increase premiums with there has been a claim, Your mother should be contesting the claim asap, does your mother know how much the claim is for.

Look at terms and conditions of the policy to discover the amount of a NCB which is lost if a claim is made.
