Default Conditions for Issue of a Parking/Speeding Ticket

I wanted to start a thread on this issue as I am partly aware of the law but I do not have the finite detail regarding this issue and wanted to see if anyone has the relevant legal definition.

I am aware that in order to issue a Parking or speeding ticketicon to someone certain conditions must be met.

However, one prerequisite is that signs must clearly display on both sides of the road at the entry of a Controlled Zone and the Exit of a Controlled Zone.

The same is true of a change of Speed Limit. There must be a sign on either side of the road to display at the entry points of a change of speed. If there isn't the ticket that is issued is invalid.

Does anyone have any further details on the point of law this covers?

I think your talking about pcnicon's for parking, are you?
If so, Speeding is dealt with by means of a Endorsable Fixed Penalty Notice (E-FPN), this mean your required to pay a penalty and agree to 3 points of your licence.

I'm not sure of the requirment of FPN's at the moment, if you googles them then you might have a better idea .

    Hi,
I think you will find that under the Road Traffic Act speed limits do not have to be sign posted in such that if your driving in a built up area with street lighting less than 100meters apart that speed limit would be 30mph unless it is otherwise signeposted by the little repeater speed limit signs you see every so often along that stretch of road i.e small 40mph sign on lamp posts. If you are caught speeding in any area either by the Police or Gatso camera they have to issue you with an N.I.P. ( Notice of intended prosecution) for the offence of speeding. This has to be issued within 14 days of the alleged offence or it is deemed unenforcable. So if you get caught by a camera keep a close eye on the letter box. Usually if a Police officer stops you for speeding he can issue an N.I.P. verbally to you after he has cautioned you, if he doesnt caution you then that is also invalid. They do sometimes follow up the verbal N.I.P. with a written one through the post within the 14 days. (sometimes)

Also provided you have given your address of record or haven't moved they have to bring a prosecution within 6 months

The question wasn't regarding speeding offenses and getting caught. It was to do with signs. I know that street lighting is in essence a 30Mph limit. However, I am referring to signage in general. Going from a limit to another requires that two signs be displayed.

The same is true if you are coming into a controlled zone or leaving it. If they is only one sign when you enter or exit the controlled zone, or a speed limit change it will render the ticket invalid. However, I am unsure what section of law this comes under and I wanted the specific law if anyone knew about it and where it was.

Next time you are out driving if you look when you enter a Controlled Zone, or a Change of Speed Limit you will notice two signs, one on either side of the road facing you. I am refering to those signs.
