I have been looking at a lot of prices in supermarkets lately to get the best price. I am really surprised how much of a difference it has made to the cost of my shopping by doing this. I need to get a bit more organised though and look at more price comparison sites and get a spreadsheet for it.
But as a hilarious example of how expensive things can be if you don't watch out... see the image in full size to spot the hyperinflation!

I agree completely, I can easily save 5 to 10% on a £50 shop by being very careful now and not just picking up an item.
And be wary of the so called special offers, sometimes they are not much better or can be worse than the 'normal' price.
another con is thinking the larger packets/containers are better value. They fool you by putting price per litre for one and then price per 100ml for the other. Both legal, but it seems people don't know their weights and measures even though metric should be child's play!
agree, you need to be eagle eyed but it really is worthwhile taking the time to browse the aisles. This week I stocked up on litre fruit juice boxes...by comparing prices in the 2 biggies near me where they both had ' buy one get one free offers' on opposing brands...I now have my favorite juices providing me with 50% of my daily vitamin intake for the next 2 months at half price. Granted I had to visit the shop 4 times in order to be able to carry it all back, but hey, I am unemployed and didnt mind the exercise!
On the subject of price comparing, I dont know about where you live, but here we get a load of adverts in the mail from supermarkets about what they will have on special offer over the coming weeks. Read meticulously...cross reference if necessary... before sending those annoying circulars to the papiermache box.
build your meal plans for the coming few weeks around whats on offer if the deal is good ( beware, dont be sucked in by all the rubbish you dont use or need ), and try to make the meal plans work together so that you aren't left wondering if that half a bag of peppers will taste good blended with those bulkbuy cherry yoghurts!
Today I had to buy some more batteries, so looking at the various ones found an offer for two packs of 4 for £6, normally about 3.25 each or something like that. They had bigger amounts but not much cheaper and I didn't want that many, but looking around at other things, I found further away from the normal batteries another special offer on... Buy 1 pack of 4 for £3.85 (or something like that) and get one free! So in the same supermarket a similar product (different brand) differed by around £2.15!!
If you keep your eyes peeled you can save even in the same place....
