Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
well, this i think is the start of a long drawn out issue with a and l.
my employers delayed my wage in april 2006, by 5 days. and l took out £408 in charges for returned/unpaid direct debits and standing orders. for most people like me, that is a huge amount of money in one month. i called them and asked, and was told that's just the way it is. then i wrote to them, appealing to teir sense of fair play. still the same anodyne reply, saying a and l were not at fault, all in my contract etc. then i wrote again saying oft, and a third time, saying i was considering legal action. still nothing. at that stage it would have remained just a consideration of legal action due to my inherent laziness about such issues. i asked HSBC to transfer my account direct debits over, from a and l, but still intended to eep the account open as i had some payments coming in to that account anyways.
on transferring the standing order details, they withdrew my overdraft facility without any advance warning, and thus when a cheque was presented to them, they generated charges and an unauthorised overdraft charge(total of £68 + £25). for me, tht was the last straw. i filled in the money claim form online, which they have acknowledged and informed me they will be defending, and also wrote tot he bank to point out their latest episode of bloody mindedness. following my last letter to them, they have refunded the charges of £93, but not the previous £408.
so i'm waiting for the court case and will keep you all informed, though i would be grateful for any info/ advise you may have to offer.
