    Default New to the forum!

    Hi all,

I heard Martin from Moneysavingexpert on BBC London the other night (last week) and have since found this site.

I went to my bank (St. James's Place - a division of Halifaxicon) and they have send me though a list of all my charges since the account opened in 2002.

I have not used the bank for over a year, so get though a new fine every month for being in unauthized overdrafticon.

I am not sure if their list is correct, as I know there are ones missed out. But it works out as around £1,400 of charges to claim for, so I'm going to give it a good go!

They are only a small bank so this could well be a rocky ride.

    Wish me luck!

    J

    Hi

The Halifaxicon's legal debt will deal with it anyway I would Imagen but read the FAQ's and the step by step and you will understand the process a little more.

Spend a few days reading the forums and take a good look in the Halifax and you may find someone also with your bank or get help in there.

Start your own thread in the banks forum and use this for your questions and you will get lots of help/support/advice you need.

    Good luck............

I am new to your forum having been recommended to your site by a friend.

I have had a small current account with Abbeyicon for about 4 years with an O/D facility of £500. It has not been very active and there has been litte in the way of charges over the years. However, recently I overlooked a DD and as a result went about £50 over the limit. Also, although I had paid in cash in time (I thought) to meet a cheque I had drawn for £35 (having checked my balance the previous day) this also was bounced, and I ended up with 2 letters advising forthcoming charges on 2 dishonoured items. This is the first time to my recollection that I have ever had a cheque bounced. When I phoned Abbey to check the position I was told that the total charges that would be debited to my account as a result of these transactions would be around £120! I had a long conversation during which I told them that I thought the charges were outrageous and totally out of proportion to the "offence" or the work or costs involved. As "a gesture of goodwill" they offered to reverse one charge of £35 but nothing further. When I insisted I was not satisfied they said they would note my complaint and send me a letter. I then, having visited your website, wrote a letter to Abbey's reqistered address asking for a complete list of transactions and charges. I presume it will be some weeks before I get a reply. In the meantime I received this morning a letter from Abbey saying that they have carried out a full investigation of the charges and find them valid. They are prepared, as a further "gesture of goodwillicon" to reverse a further £35 provided I accept this as "Full and finalicon settlement..." I have 8 weeks to decide.
I should appreciate the thoughts of other members as to what I should do. This is a small matter, of course. My main bank account is with Lloydsicon TSB on which over the years I have incurred substantial charges, not for dishonoured drawings, but for small excess over my OD limit. I should very much like to recover these charges if I could but I will need to set up an alternative account well in advance.

    Hi Turnkey

At the end of the day its upto you but the charges are unlawful and Abbeyicon know this and you will get them back if you follow the Info on here.

And its not the amount thats Important but the fact that the banks seem to think that we will just lay back and take it.

Read the FAQs and the step by step and this will help and also read the forums and Abbeys and you will see how everyone is getting on with this.

Start your own thread in the SHAbbey forum if you have any other questions.

    Good luck.

    Welly
