Default Bank duplicates an online payment ... what now

Hi, I used my online banking facility over the weekend. Today I received a call from the recipient (credit card company) to advise that the payment I made into the card has been made twice. (not by me) Leaving my bank a/c overdrawn by 12k. The card company will do nothing as it is not their issue. What should I do now please? Do I have a case to claim compensation here?

Have you received any correspondence form your bank

Advice is based on my personal opinion, and what I have learnt from this forum.

Have you contacted your bank? Transfer issues are very rare, but like Forum posts that are duplicated, can be traced back to the initiator doing something that causes the problem, even here on GAC when it appears the system has gone to sleep - a few RETURN presses generate multiple messages can (because the server is working slowly) are not captured and rejected.

Many financial websites warn of the risk of making duplicate instructions, and in this light a claim for 'compensation' would ultimately fail. Clearly you would have told the CC that the error existed and to return the funds, so your loss (apart from the day or so the funds were out your account) would be minimal.

If you would lose interesticon, then your bank if it agreed to take the blame for the double debit, could refund the interest lost as a measure of customer goodwill, but for compensation? I don't see this happening.
