    Unhappy Question On Alliance And Leicester

    Gday - I Was Hoping That Someone Could Give Me Advice On Where I Stand With The Following Scenario -

    -i Have An A&l Current Account With £650.00 overdrafticon Facility.
    -went Marginally Over It By Circa 39 Pounds. Was Notified In Writing That I Should Clear The Debts, And Expunge The Whole Overdraft Amount.
    -sold Some Items For £800.00, And Put A Cheque And Cash In Bank.
    In The Interim, Some Very Delayed (outgoing) Cheques Etc Have Been Put Through For Payment Between The Period Of Them Sending Me The Letter (they Want Me To Clear It, But Aren't Helping With Continual And Daily Charges) And The Cheque (i Have Put In Itself) Going Through Fully. Even Though The Money Is Pending Into My Account I Have Rcvd 4 Letters Today With Charges Ranging From 25 Pounds To 34 Pounds.
    -bottom Line - While Waiting For This Cheque To Clear, I Am Getting Hit With Constant Charges, Which Are Wittling Away At The 800 Pounds I Have Put In.
    (in Two Days My Balance Has Gone From 689.oo Pounds O/d To Over 800 Pounds O/d)

    Any Advice Would Be Great And Highly Appreciated

    From your description I would say that the 4 charges between £25 and £34 and any further similar charges fall within the description of unlawful charges. As such they and any interesticon charges incurred as a result of them are claimable.
    I suggest you get yourself another account with another bank/building society and start using it.
    If you have deposited sufficient money to cover the outstanding debt and interest not including the unlawful charges and the interest resulting from them then any further charges and interest taken can be recaimed.

    I think it is probably good advice to get a new account. From what you say, once your cheque has cleared you will be back within your limit, so I suggest that you phone A&L pointing this out, and that you were trying to comply with their request. I wouldn't hold my breath for a positive result, but it is worth trying.

    Either way, I suggest you read the FAQ's and start getting your money back.
