Default Living expenses, can I include BUPA?

    Hi,

I will most likely be filing for bankruptcy in the next few weeks and I'm going over my living expenses trying to get it as accurate as possible.

I currently have medical coverage from BUPA, its about £40 per month, would this be allowed as a living expense?

Also, I have be trying to work out my monthly food / cleaning allowance, does £200 per month for a single person seem too much?
This amount includes all food, lunches, cleaning products and pet food.

    Thanks!

    Hi there

£200 for housekeeping for a single person seems reasonable. £40 for your BUPA I am not 100% about, but should be absolutely fine to continue paying this, if you can provide proof.

I would be dubious about the BUPA payments. BUPA might be highly desirable but it's not essential - there is always the NHS to fall back on.

If you had some medical condition that only BUPA could provide then maybe you could swing it. But that's a huge hoop to jump through.
(But in that case BUPA would probably cease cover anyway).

    Hello rapterman!

    £40...you must be very young!

BUPA is just another Debt Industry rip off, and best avoided if at all possible. Like all Insurance, they would not bother doing it if they did not make buckets of money.

BUPA is cheap when you are fit, single and not too young!

But, as you age, marry, have kids, the costs go up, and up and up.

IOW, the closer you get to making any sort of claim, the more you pay. So much so, that it soon gets absurd.

Sure, some will do well, and it's those people they will tout as being examples of how jolly sensible the nice insurance is they are selling...they play on peoples' fears, and present examples of those who struck lucky and received the help they needed, when they needed it.

The rest pay through the nose until the point when they can not afford it, then they end up needing to Claim, and by then have no cover!

Dump all such issues, and put your money into the things that matter.

    Cheers,
    BRW

Thanks for responses, I don't think I will include the BUPA coverage.

Yeah, I got it cheaper as it is part of a group policy through my employer, the same policy would cost about £90 if taken out on my own.

In 5 years time it will be £180!

In 10 years time it will be £440!

In 20 years time you won't be able to afford it!

In 30 years time with no BUPA cover, you will get it done on the NHS anyway, and wished you'd never paid all that to BUPA when you were young!

    Cheers,
