Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Hi, i jut bought a car last night and travelling to work this morning nearly had a big accident in the snow becuase the abs doesnt work!
On closer inspection the dashboard has been tampered with.
The black bit at the bottom which has the 'abs' transfer in ( so when the bulb lights up behind it shows the abs warning light ) that has been cut out and stuck over another light, so it appears the abs it working. However in the orignal place of the ABS transfer it has some sort of black square covering it, but you can actually see its not a great fit and some light is appearing from one side. Clearly showing that the bulb behind is illuminated to indicate a ABS fault
Any suggestions what to do? Im extremely p*ssed off

ABS is a braking aid and not a substitute for good driver control or use of the "real" braking function via the brake pedal. There is no requirement for cars to be fitted with ABS and indeed many older cars are still functioning very well without it.
On the point that this particular model is fitted with an ABS system as standard and you were lead to believe this feature was operating correctly (perhaps even a malicious attempt to ensure you believed this to be true has taken place) then you may have a claim under SOGA. I'm not an expert on this so just wait for a CAGger who knows about cars sales and SOGA.
Dubious website businesses Conterfeit alcohol and cigarettes Illegal sales of alcohol, tobacco, knives & fireworks to children Cowboy builders or tradesmen Car clockers Counterfeiters Aggressive selling
Never phone or accept phonecalls from debt collection companies.
If you don't believe you can win, there is no point in getting out of bed.

This is an interesting one. From 2004 all cars sold in the UK have to have ABS fitted as standard and I for one agree with Crem in that if you need to use ABS then your probably mostly in the wrong anyway. It's not a get out of jail free card but an aid to. The sames as DSC etc, etc. What's interesting about ABS is that a lot of other driver aids rely on it however when it fails, it does not mean the car is unsafe. The odd thing is that it's possible to tie down the time to a certain extent as to when "the crime" was done. It has to be between the MOT dates. The daft thing is the extent to which the perputrator went as the easiest thing would have been to cut the warning light circuit and extend the engine management circuit so that the engine check bulb fitted in it's place and very few people would have picked up on it.
As conniff points out, was it dealer or private sale?
