    Question Rights after maternity leave..

    Hi

I really hope someone can offer me advice on a couple of rights after maternityicon leave problems that I have.

Firstly, I am due back to work following my maternity leave and I would like to request to return part-time. I understand that my employer must give this serious consideration, and give valid reasons for any refusal. I am aware of a couple of colleagues in my office, albeit in a different team, that have been granted this request following maternity leave. If my request is refused, would I have a valid reason to complain to my union? Would it do any good?

Secondly, part of my job involves being on-call for one week in four. I just wondered if there was any allowances by law for a woman returning from maternity leave, to be excluded for on-call duties for a period of time?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi New Mum,

Your employer should be resaonable with your written request, and it seems as though they have tried to accomodate previous employees in similar circumstances.

So should your request be refused you may be able to use the other employees as a precedent when raising a grievanceicon, but that is along way off, I would write and ask - see what is the response and take it from there.

Your employer has a duty to provide you with the same terms and conditionsicon you enjoyed before your pregnancy but not neccessarily the same work, so it may well fit in with their plans too.
