Default BMW Extended Fully Comp Warranty [problem]

BMW Extended Fully Comp Warranty [problem]

I am writing this to warn other BMW drivers. I own a 06 2.0d X3 with 43k miles that has a full BMW service history. The car is supposedly covered by extended BMW Comprehensive Component Cover warranty (their most expensive top level cover). Shortly after its last major service the car developed a Turbo fault. The dealer told me that the turbo had failed due to a build up of carbon and this wasn’t covered under the warranty. The estimate for the repair was £4000. I asked how this could have happened the reason given was lots of short drives!!!! or possibly bad fuel. . After much deliberation under goodwill they reduced the cost to £1200. I have information suggesting that the local BMW dealer has seen this problem on at least 10 BMW X3 and their technical department does not know why this is happening! Has anyone else reported this fault? I know under the 3 year warranty this problem is fixed free of cost. If you have any other suggestions to help me on this matter it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank You

Yet again we see another extended warranty problem.
It is not a warranty but an insurance against mechanical failure. You need to look at the policy.

Please can you send me copies of what is and is not covered and the terms and conditionsicon via pm.

I used to know these policys inside out but need updating.

We need to see this first.

Turbo units are always problematic as regards warranty but I have knowledge and info on this which not generally known.

There are many reasons why carbon builds up and BMW are on apar with Railtrack as to ridiculous excuses as why the product fail.

I've read the PM and link but would specificaly need to see the policy. Apart from my usual rant that these policy's are not clearly explained and on apar with PPIicon mis selling, on face value it is not.

The next thing I would point out is that this Turbo unit has a history of failure as you will not only see posted with monotemous regularity on this forum but others.

BMW have a very agressive nature in relation to faults preferring to call them Quality Enhancement campaigns as oppossed to manufacturer instigated re calls. What every manufacturer wants to avoid is an official recall which has been imposed by a Governmental authority.

What's interesting about your incident is that, as opposed to others, is that the car has on face value, never been out of the official BMW network and they say no warranty.

The next fact is that no dealership has the facillitites to determine the exact cause of failure. Given that the affected item has failed well below the engineering sign off point, unless dismantled it is impossible to make a conclusive decision.

I take it that since purchase you have complied with the servicing agrrement.

I own a BMW X3 3d sports, 06 plate 46k with full BMW service history. I have had my turbo replaced 3 times within the space of a year. It was just 40 days out of the 3 year warranty, I had to pay £500 towards the cost of a new turbo and BMW payed the rest as good will. If you pay something towards the cost of repair, the part is under warranty for 2 years. Thank god as I have gone through 3 already!!

I have no faith in my BMW X3....Prior to this I had a Honda CRV for 9 years with just 1 visit to the Honda garage.........and it is still going!!!

I am sick of going back and forth to BMW. I bought BMW as it is a Prestige brand.......never again.

Has anyone actually approached BMW head on with these failures. BMW extended warranty is an insurance policy underwritten in the UK and NOT, BMW AG.

Suppliers warrant their products to the manufacturer for mileage so you can bet they recover the costs from them.

Problem is BMW will never admit they have a problem and are very arrogant in defending the issues they have. Remember the 6 and V8 cylinder compression loss problems?? Blamed on Venuzualen crude oil in the UK with a high sulphur content. Funny how other manufacturers using the same cylinder coatings didn't have an issue. At least they dealt with the issue so perhaps they ought to have a look at this one as well.
