Hi A C as an x smoker now stopped for over 20 years after smoking for over 30 years I can tell you life only gets better. I stopped the smokers cough in about a year and after 3 years had a holiday in America as a result of the saving I made.
The first six weeks are the worst, I know that you can do it.
I stopped 01/01/09 with out patches or gum, yes it was hard but bloody worth it. The first 6 weeks aren't great but keep reminding yourself that the chemical dependancy stops after 3-4 days and the rest is psychological, it's corny but true. For me, and this is just the way I dealt with it was not to distance myself from smokers but to carry on with my day to day routine and act like nothing had changed. Also if the cravings get bad just remind yourself that you have lasted XX days and if you had just one cigarette you would have to go through it again.
Keep up the good work my friend I know what your going though, take each day as it comes and embrace the fact that you are now a non smoker.
AC you can do this, never quit quitting lol . . . dont let a ciggy win you cause you better than that. I smoked for 15 years and just stopped on the 01/10/2009. . . it was a living hell but now I am through it and never felt better. it was worth it and what I went through to give up has convinced me never ever to start again .
I am actually think that being a non-smoker is so; boooooooring;
still can't concentrate;
feel anxious and;
my hand still goes out to grab a ciggy when I am having a coffee at the PC.
Oh well, day 13 begins and it will be interesting to see how long I can stay off the Nicotine.
Have you considered Champix, im about 5 weeks in, and can tell you it definitely stops the craving.
Remember your not just withdrawing from nicotine, but thousands of other chemicals too.
I cracked a back filling whilst munching on Cadbury's fruit and nut chocolate.
If I hadn't given up the ciggies, I would not have eaten the chocolate...!
So, to date no money has been saved , also I have had to put myself on a diet.
