    Hi

You should declare this to your contents insurer just prior to the annual renewal. However, not an issue with the landlord's buildings insurance.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply.
So I don't have to tell my landlord? He did ask me when I moved in, as he said his insurance company had asked. I obviously don't want to tell him but I don't want his policy to be invalid either.

Why do insurers have to know this anyway? Is it likely that they will still insure you but just maybe charge more as they regard you as higher risk?

If the Landlord/His Insurer's have asked, then I regret to say, it's worthwhile telling him/them.

It really depends on what your Tenancy Agreement says, but I would err on the side of caution!

Insurers do tend to deem bankruptcy as a 'Material Fact'.

I don't have a tenancy agreement as it's a family member that owns the house.
