Well basically, i was involved in an accident last week 18/01/2010 which wasn't my fault (other car pulled into main road and hit into me.) When the police arrived and checked for my insurance i had it and there was no probs. But when i had called insurers next day to make the claim, they said that, that morning they had cancelled my policy due to no proof of no claims and backdated the cancellation to the 14th.
I had previously sent my no claims out twice since taking the policy out, but they did not seem to receive it. They sent me a letter in december stating that as i was paying monthly that they would just increase the premium. I thought that would be the end of it, so i didn't bother folowing up., then recently i received a letter stating that if they didnt receive the no claims proof by the 14/01/2010 they would cancel my policy. I rang them on this date and they have proof of the conversation. They said that i should provide them with the details over the phone and they would verbally get the proof from my previous insurer. As i didnt have it to hand i said just charge me the additional premium and lets put an end to it. But the guy at the other end now said that wasnt possible.... (They have this recording) So he said i should fone back with the details later. So i digged up my previous insurance details and rang my insurer to send out the no claims proof again, but as it was late, i couldnt call back my current insuruer and so decided to wait for it in the post.
Now i was still covered between the 14th to the 18th of Jan 2010. My accident was on 18th Jan. They cancelled policy on 19th and then decided to backdate to the 14th and offer me refund of the 4 days. I have the no claims proof. According to them the matter is closed and final and my policy iscancelled . What should i do as i have a car which i cant afford to repair as the damage is substantial. is there anything that can be done.

Hi, if the other car caused the accident why do you need to claim on your insurance for the damage, other issues aside? Is it that your insurers are refusing to handle the claim full stop?
Secondly, if you were covered on the date of the accident but they have decided to backdate that policy and offer you a refund for the final days you should be able to refuse that offer, as it is merely an offer.
Even if you failed to provide proof of NCB they should have just raised your monthly payment to reflect this and not just cancelled on you. Do you have all the letters from them and did they take payments right up to the accident date so you were definitely covered at the time?
Either way get a complaint raised immediately and request the transcripts or calls for review.
