Account frozen?? Anyone else had this situation? Advice please???
Hi all,
Newbie to this site, so am really hoping to get some advice on here as have now got a bit of a problem with ltsb.
When I was married, I had a joint account with the wife (obviously!!) and since getting divorced about 3 years ago now, I've been paying off the overdraft that was on the account, about £2500.
The amounts being paid by me were set up as a standing order to the bank, and we (LSTB and I) had an agreement.
About 3 months ago, maybe longer, I noticed my current account was showing up saying these payments had started being returned, "account does not exist - payment returned" was what my statement was saying.
Anyway, I thought that was strange, but as the bank had never been in touch either by phone or post, I thought little more of it, and assumed the account had been paid off, and the bank had simply closed the account down, which was part of our agreement.
I've moved house since, and a couple of days ago, I received a lteer from a debt collection agency telling me I owe £1392!!!
My question is quite simple - Are LTSB allowed to just freeze, or close an account, which is being paid into regularly as agreed, and stop accepting these payments? Where do I stand with this situation?
Obviously, i need to contact the agency to discuss this with them, but wanted to know initially, if anyone else on here has had this problem themselves, and what was the outcome, if any?
