I am wondering if someone could give me a word of advice on the following.
Three months ago I ordered my credit file from Experian Credit Ltd. After receiving the report I discovered that Barclaycard people have put couple of defaults on my file back in 2005 and 2006 (for just going £3 over the credit limit).
I used the templates, available on this site, and asked for the refund of £46. It wasn't the money I was bothered but the default enteries on my file. At first Barclaycard agreed to pay £24 (partial) which was later credited to my Barclaycard account. I told them I am not accepting this and they should give me the full amount along with the removal of defaults.
Yesterday I received their final reply and they have now refused to do either. Because I am still classed as defaulter for those couple of occasions that's why they wont remove them from my credit file.
Can anyone please tell me what to do in this situation, is that the dead end of the issue or I can still ask them to remove the defaults. Any letter or template you could suggest?
Many thanks and have a nice day.
Adam

Thanks slick123, I have already followed the procedure and Barclays has returned £24 out of £46. I have also refused to accept the offer but they have already credited £24 in may barclaycard account. The trouble is they are not removing the default from my credit file and constantly saying that it's still a default as the credit limit exceeded both time. I am more worried about how to get those couple of default removed.
Regards
Adam

true defaults or just a mark saying you went overlimit?? a default is a serious breach usually resulting in the account being closed prior to court action... what does the experian file say exactly??
The file has 5 circles (with numbers) marked 1, 1, 1, 1 and 2.
Two circles (1 and 1) my Barclaycard and Three circles (1,1 and 2) in orange mobile account in 2007 which is an other issue I wasnt aware off (another problem to deal with).
Apart from those numbered circles rest of the file is clean (circles with 0 all over them).
Thanks again.

Don't be put off by the fact that BC have already credited the £24 to your a/c. Stick to your guns and this will be refunded in full.
You may be unable to get the negative data removed from your credit records as the data recorded appears to be factually correct. However, if the late markers were placed solely because of the penalties, which are unlawful, then you have at least some grounds for the markers to be removed.
Having said this, the markers showing the a/c in arrears for brief periods are not as damaging to your credit rating as, say, an a/c that has been defaulted and terminated.

These are not defaults just minor misdemeanors. more than 12 months out they will not likely to affect your credit score significantly...
You may well find that the failed application had very little to do with these markers.
Lenders have been far more strict in the last 2 - 3 years, both in considering new applications for credit and in re-assessing existing debtors resulting in reduced or withdrwn credit.
