Hi everyone

I am new to this site and there seems to be lots of useful advice :)

Please can someone offer me some. :?

I was visiting the hospital on 11/01/09 and parked in the car park displaying a parking permit. I parked in a space after waiting for it to be vacated by another vehicle. On return to my car I had recevied a fine for 'parked in a restrcited area of the car park'. I then noticed that a cone had been placed behind my car which said 'do not park here this is not a car park space'. The space was at the end of a row of cars & another car was parked directly behind me.

The fine was issued by NCP & is for £30 to be paid within 14 days rising to £60 within 28days.

What steps should I take??? :?

Thanks - what is likely to happen if I ignore it?

Nothing will happen although in the interim period you will receive, spread over several months junk mail some correspondence from NCP and their cronies suggesting all manner of things will happen to you if you don't pay.

It won't.

Read the threads on here to familiarise yourself with how the PPC operate and why the advice is to do nothing.

Once you have that sorted make sure you tell your family and friends what to do if they end up in the same situation.

Louise, in a nutshell your situation has nothing to do with parking offences in the eyes of the law and all to do with the law of contract. The law surrounding parking issues only applies to public roads, not car parks.

The only thing that the company could do is to try and bring a contractual argument against the DRIVER of the vehicle (not the owner! - see where we are going here?)

Just ignore. This is the usual type of meaningless threatogram. You are now getting towrads the end of their letter chain.

Just because the letter is from a solicitor, don't worry. I am afraid that there are several solicitors who don't mind getting involved in these dodgy scams.
