Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I'm looking to buy a car and have come across one on autotrader. It is listed as a trade seller but the pictures are taken outside of a house (strange). The company have their own website here (sorry if I'm not allowed to link). Despite this, I cannot find them listed in the companies house website. Does this mean they are impersonating a trader when actually they are a private seller? I wouldn't like to buy a car from them and realise I have no rights if anything should happen.
Looks dodgy to me. Pics not very proffesional and their address is a bit ambiguous and 'cars located in 2 locations'? Personally I would'nt touch em with a barge pole mate.

Sorry but I would poke that where the sun don't shine. No address and a mobile number. I know they are not asking for money on the site, but any legit dealer would have all the information required to go see them.
It looks like he is a reseller and rings up people saying he has a buyer for their car.
Too many real dealers around and the model of car you want to bother with amateur cowboys like that.

You guys are probaly very right and I wouldn't touch them as well. But if you read my response conniff it's actually true. Frankly I'd have expected a bit more of a refined response from you.
Perhaps if the site could have been taken seriously, it would have been more serious or refined, but I don't have time for joke sites that are not what they pretend to be.
The OP has already checked them out at companies house with no result, so what more can be said. They have registered their address with the site though
Registrant's address:
27 Ashbourne Avenue
Bradford
West Yorkshire
BD2 4AW
United Kingdom
And Google maps shows that as a private house.

Conniff, whilst you guys are probably correct in the assumption that it's iffy, and I don't deny this, it's a typical case of the gun ho attitude that can exist on this site.
What I was attempting to point out is that there is a possibility that it is a legit sale ( though the odds are against). Further, as per the op's link, tis hardly a trader masquerading as a private sellar. It's also listed as a trade sellar aparrently. As the post clearly says it's a trade sale so must be a trade sellar.
Are you now saying that in the glossy mags the pics of exotic cars for sale are dodgy as they don't advertise the vat number or registered address? Some of them even have a mobile number for enquiries.
So lets then move on to the private house issue you have. I've owned LTD companies with trading addresses, some with my private address and some with trading names at that address.
The point is that here you are going at a company who is potentially (though looks like more than unlikely) might actually turn out to be quite legitimate.

What I meant to get across but was let down by my literarary skills it that it's not a site to instill confidence.
So how do I get to see the car, there is no showroom address and yet it would seem that he has all these cars for sale.
If it was a showroom, then it should have a landline number and not a mobile.
Lots of business are registered from home, I know that, my son is one of them, but he does have all the details available on his site that you can trace him.
What I meant to say was 'first appearances can count for a lot'.
The first thing I look at on any site is for name, address, co No and landline. They don't have them I don't even look at their products.

Does this mean they are impersonating a trader when actually they are a private seller?
Why would people want to do this... i would have thought it would be the other way round; a trader wanting to come of as a private sellor...
Looking at those pictures, a lot of them seem to have been taken on Wapping road (you can just see the grounds of Bradford City FC in some). I know there are no car sales sites on that road.....
What I meant to say was 'first appearances can count for a lot'.
Here with is quote from heliosuk book of wisdom (though doubt it's a big as yours!!!)
"just because you witness a man throwing a match into a fire does not necessarily mean that the man smokes"
On the balance of probabilities I don't think I would buy from them either. Looks like quite a site of dodgy people with questionable parentage but then the likes of you and I know how to handle these things which Joe Public doesn't.
"just because you witness a man throwing a match into a fire does not necessarily mean that the man smokes"
It probably means his mother in law is sitting on the top.

it is a legit site set up through autotrader/tradermedia they set up a website for you for a monthly fee must be vat reg to hold an account
check out Kmcarsales.co.uk - Km Car Sales
most independant traders set up these websites as its cheaper and easier than doing it yourself and the beauty is when you upload your advert onto your website it automatically uploads onto the autotraders website.
i personally think it gives the trader more credibility rather than a small advert in the paper witha mobile number. imean ffs he is giving his home address.....

It doesn't give them any credibility, but it does give them more exposure.
It says the car is for sale by them (KM) so why can't I go and see it, why do they only have a mobile number, why aren't they registered with Companies House. If they have to be VAT registered to hold the account with Autotrader, they must be a registered business, so why are they not showing their company number on the site, why aren't they saying these are customers cars being sold by us on behalf of the customer.
I would say this is one of those companies that tout genuine private sellers for a price saying they have a buyer for the car when in fact they do not and stick them up on the website hoping to attract a buyer.
What is this KM Bradford, they may as well say KM Europe for all that is worth as it don't tell you where they are and the address the site is reg under is a private house and all these cars aren't on show there.

and not all motortraders own forecourts and glass fronted showrooms. some sell from home and most of the photos are taken in the same place, i would suggest this is a sole trader working from home with a website supplied by autotrader.

The latter part of your comment is totally unwarranted leicesterlad. Conniff has posted very valid and useful points of view and conceeded that earlier in the conversation.
I think an edit or clarification might be in order
