Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Hi
Does anybody know whether any manufacturer or recognised body (eg police motor cycle department or motorcycle club) recommend starting a motorcycle , revving it up then leaving it for five minutes ticking over (unattended) presumably to warm up?
I have a feeling that leaving any vehicle unattended whilst the engine is running is actually an offence. It would certainly invalidate the insurance should someone happen along and drive off with it.

I am not an expert in law, finance or any related field, I just read a lot. Any advice is based solely on what I've read so please don't take it as gospel without checking it out yourself.
I prefer not to give advice by PM. If you want me to look at something, send me a link to your thread, and if I can help I'll reply on there.
Leaving the engine running whilst also leaving the vehicle unattended is legally referred to as "quitting". However, it is only an offence on the public highway.
Any insurance company worth its salt will have a clause in the policy about securing the vehicle. Leaving it available with the keys in (never mind engine running) would likely invalidate any claim for theft (and maybe even fire).
That said, I tend to defrost my car by starting it, locking it with the spare keys and going back in for coffee. But as it is on my property, no offence is committed.

lots of people recommend starting a bike and letting it warm up.
on some bike and in cold conditions this is essential, certainly the Aprillia RS 125 has well known issues of the engine seizing and breaking if you don't, (basically it's a high performance water cooled 2 stroke, it revs very high and produces a lot of power, supposedly if you jump straight on it, you race off down the road, and when the engine is hot enough the thermostat opens, and the cylinder shrinks onto the piston because it's now cold. not problem when it's idling, but when you're racing off down the road it is a problem and can lead to damage. -at least that's what I was told by a guy who had one.
never have I seen anyone recommend leaving a running vehicle unattended. you're supposed to stand next to the bike.
