We need to get any ads that are approved posted on our Facebook with a link to CAG. I've already corrected a couple of people on mine who seemed to believe its all over. I reckon Facebook is the best way to reach the youngsters as well - they'll spend hours on there but won't go near any "boring" financial sites!

Facebook is a good way to reach youngsters but can you post that sort of stuff on Facebook?

Hi Barry
I just meant the ad they're talking about in earlier posts. If its too long, nothing to stop us saying things like "check out CAG" in our profiles. I've already done this where people have commented on bank charges.

Don't think so, anything to spread the word and get people who are struggling on here! Just have to be careful if you want to remain anonymous on this site.

RIGHT FOLKS..................
Via Martin3030 I've got approval for my newspaper ad, I've tried to keep it short and to the point and intend to try and get it in nice large font
As this has been approved, I'm sure anyone can feel free to follow suit in their region
(Martin: feel free to correct this if I'm wrong!)
I see this as an opportunity to give something back for the amazing help I've had over the years (and obviously stick it to the banks in the process!)
Ad:
BANK CHARGES
DO NOT BELIEVE THE HYPE!
THE RECENT COURT RULING IS NOT THE END
PLEASE SEE WWW.CONSUMERACTIONGROUP.C O.UK"
FOR FURTHER FREEINFORMATION
It has also been suggested to add a line about a QC being instructed to write a template for bank charge claimants, but I like the idea of keeping it simple

Please note: I am not a member of the legal profession, all advice given is purely my opinion, if in doubt consult a professional

This is a very welcome gesture and one that CAG would undoubtedly embrace.
Its not something many will be able to afford, and therefore there is no expectancy from Caggers to choose to do it.
Advertising in media has took a battering since the credit crunch so there is that to consider.
For those who feel able to post an ad in their local paper,as someone who has done this myself,I will offer a couple of pointers.
If you have more than one publication in your area-contact them all and play them off against eachother to get the best rates.
Find out deadlines for placing ads and call just before to see if there is cancellation space going-you can often get up to 50% discounts by taking a cancellation.
Be prepared to haggle-and offer to pay up front.Pre-paid ads give more bargaining power.
Anything that can bring awareness to those in the dark is well worth a shot-unfortunately theres lots out there who will already be throwing in the towel. We need to get a message across to those.
There is ongoing work behind the scenes to further this cause and hopefully there will be new templates published here very soon for those needing.Keep your eyes on the CAG front page.
This particular initiative for the local press adverts will be made a stickie so others interested can join in and monitor.
Thanks in advance to all those who have already expressed an interest.

NFC355,MARTIN3030,
Thanks for this I will get in THE NEWS this week, what day would you say is best, im also trying to think of where in the paper to put it as there are many sections.
Re: H.O.L Test case appeal. Judgement Declared. ***See Announcements***
PF I think if you speak to advertising they will tell you best section in their paper.
They will obv try to sell you space they need to fill-so be aware of any sales talk.
As regards what issues to post in-look at it from your angle as a reader yourself - which edition is most likely to catch your eye ?
The text ncf has posted gets straight to the point-just a tweak as posted below.

It's also worthwhile sending in a letter to the editor for publication. Although they probably wouldn't print links you could still refer them to CAG / MSE etc
Additionally, most regional papers have online versions where you can set up your own blog..

Re: Local newspaper ads highlighting CAG/proposed new directions
It's always worth calling your local paper and get them to see if they will make a piece focusing on YOU "human interest" story so to speak. I did that in 2006 to raise awareness on the bank charges issues, and was deeply embarassed when they turned it into a "local hero" story... But it still made a 1/2 page article directing people to CAG.
Apologies to people who I was in the process of helping, I may be gone some time.

Very brave of you. I'm far too shy. There is someone else on here from my area - maybe he would try it with our local paper. He doesn't seem shy at all but they might be scared of him!
I'm going to contact my paper and ask for a quote - I think Monday will be better as that is deadline day.
