Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I logged on to my online banking today. I was told I had to register by giving my mobile phone number,so that in future if I wish to carry out transactions, a one time use code will be texted to me to allow me to do so. If I do not ,[or do not have a mobile phone even] I will only be able to use online banking to see my details, and apparently will not even be able to change my personal details online. There is no indication of how many times I can refuse to register before my online banking is suspended.
Can Abbey do this? And has anyone had their online account suspended because they declined to register. ?
I always check with the bank when something new pops up, you can never be too careful, and in the end although it is a liberty they want your mobile number, if it is true then it does add another layer of security for you

What they are saying is that if a customer does not have a mobile phone they will no longer be able to use the full range of online banking services. They state that signing up for this extra pass code is 'mandatory'. Not everyone has a mobile phone even these days. I do but don't want to use it to receive a 'security ' code from my bank so I can use online banking.I have never had any security problems before and already have to fill in 3 boxes to log in,two of which are security codes known only to me.
I would'nt give them my Mobile number, so you've not actually registered for the on-line banking yet ?
I am registered for and have used online banking for sometime. Abbey are seeking to force me to go through another hoop to use the full range of online banking services.
It's definitely not a [problem], I've had the same thing.
When you log into Abbey's online banking a new page comes up, I have pressed the 'register later' (which is in grey and purposely hidden) and then you get asked AGAIN if you don't want to sign up there and there, for the past month since they have introduced it. I too don't want to jump through yet another hoop to access online banking but I fear Abbey are just following on from other banks examples (eg Barclays and their 'PIN' machine, if you don't have it on you, you can't make payments or fully access your account).
As I said, I've been refusing to register for a month now and they obviously haven't suspended the service yet. I'll keep pressing the no button until they literally force it on me.
