Default Barclaycard / problems! Please help!

Hi.. Please help me! Sorry for the long boring post! I took out a Morgan Stanley credit card a few years back, and Barclaycard have since taken over the account. My limit was £1800.00 + I managed to get £1000.00 together to pay towards the bill, hoping to use the credit again. Barclaysicon immediately decreased my limit to £800.00. Argued my point forever to no avail..

Anyway that was quite a while ago. I have now received a statement saying my (ex Morgan Stanley) account has been suspended (even though within credit limit and up to date) due to my other account.
This is a Barclaycard I had when I was 18 (26 now) they gave me a £3500.00 limit Gold card when I was earning <£100.00 a week. I spent it all and paid back up to about £1000.00. I started to miss payments and the charges and interesticon were too much to manage on my tiny wage. I ignored my letters and when I did contact them they would not help. The charges piled up and now I owe approx £3100.00 on that account.

Barclays sold to a debt collectionicon agency at least 3 years ago, and I haven't paid anything for around two years (I heard nothing until they took over my Morgan Stanley card).

I don't mind trying to pay back the first crediticon card I had, but the charges and extra interest are over £2000.00. I have just sent a letter asking for a Subject access requesticon for the suggested other account, but as this was passed to a debt collection agency years ago can I still claim my excessive charges back? If so, please help me with how?!

Is it legal for them to suspend an account taken out with Morgan Stanley because of an outstanding credit card account from years ago? I wouldn't be so bothered but Barclays have robbed me all my life through bank charges, credit cards, and a barclayloan =(

    Can I do anything???
Oh and I am receiving very scary letters from Roxburgh debt collection agency all of a sudden, saying I now owe £4111.00 - over £1000.00 that is actually owed?!?

    1. Send Roxburgh a CCA request, recorded delivery. That should get them off your back whilst you try to sort out exactly how much you might owe, and will incidentally provide you with a statement of account which should show where the extra £1000 has come from.

    2. Barclaysicon can basically do whatever they like regarding suspending your Morgan Stanley account. They are not obliged to provide you with credit. However such unilateral decisions have an awful tendency to return and haunt them once someone finds these forums. You could try writing to them and asking nicely if they will reinstate your account, but it's probably a waste of a stamp for which you have much better uses.

    3. In your SARicon did you ask for all information they hold on you, or only information relating to the old account? If so, write again and ask for everything they hold on you, including information on both accounts. Also send a CCA request to Barclays for the Morgan Stanley account.

    4. It is irrelevant who now allegedly owns either account, you can reclaim all the charges, plus interesticon, from Barclays. For now, you have to just wait for all the information you need, then post up the replies for further advice.

I am not an expert in law, finance or any related field, I just read a lot. Any advice is based solely on what I've read so please don't take it as gospel without checking it out yourself.

I prefer not to give advice by PM. If you want me to look at something, send me a link to your thread, and if I can help I'll reply on there.
