I have been speaking to my travel insurance company after getting a heads up from another board I visit. In light of the current situation travel insurance is basically now only covering health matters. Any delays, cancellations or damage to luggage, items missing whilst in transit will not be covered, as it falls under terrorism. I certainly now won't be taking my camera equipment on holiday as I am not risking it in my hold luggage if I am not insured for damage/loss.
Just wanted to let people know so they can check with their own insurance companies, although the impression I was given was that this was an industry wide decision.
Re: Travel insurance in light of current situation
I would be interested in how they would justify a refusal to honour claims in these circumstances as a result of terrorism. After all, there has been no terrorist attack carried out, the authorities have arrested a number of suspects, and in the wake of this, the airport authorities and the airlines have reviewed their security arrangements and brought in more stringent measures. But there has been no attack. It seems as if its another attempt by the insurers to weasel out of settling legitimate claims using the heading of "terrorism"" as an excuse.
Re: Travel insurance in light of current situation
Exactly its NOT terrorism its enhanced security thats causing the problem.
TBH I don't believe much thats put out by the press from the authorities in this country after the unbelievable blunders that no one seems to get into trouble for, I have my doubts how much of this is actually true but thats another thread entirely.
As usual the insurance industry seeing a nice little way to insulate themselves from claims and taking it, its disgraceful!

Precisely. Anyone who gets stuck with this, check your policy - in general, they exclude acts of terrorism, yet the Home Office announcement yesterday morning was to the specific effect that they had disrupted with the intention of preventing an act of terrorism.
