Default Getting charges removed from owed amount

    Hi there,

I had a Barclaysicon card while I was at college that had a £400 limit that I used to the maximum the interesticon then brang it over the limit and was subsequently charged. As I was at college at the time I couldn't repay this and eventually it was passed to a debt collectorsicon agency. The amount owed was £717 I began paying some off but then left it with a balance of £627. I want to get all my defaults settled as I want to join the navy, should I be able to get the charges plus what I've already paid removed from the owed amount? If so how would I go about it?
I've been thinking of writting to all the owners of my debts offering 50% of the default but if I can get the charges removed that will help.

    thanks
    adam

I've got the following other debts:

Blackhorse loan - loan amount £1500 outstanding £1739
Blackhorse loan - loan amount £500 outstanding £698
Lloydsicon account -Overdraft £500 at 0% oustanding £639

I don't know if its worth saying the Barclaysicon card started off as a student credit card that when I went into the bank one day to see if they could increase the limit they realised they had misold me the credit card as I was at college doing a level 3 qualification and not university and they changed it to a normal credit card and I cant remember them making me sign anything.

    Hi Adam,

Start a separate thread for each case, in the appropriate forum. Use this thread only to discuss the BC case.

To start reclaiming the charges, if you don't have all the a/c statements, send BC a SARicon which you find in here - The Consumer Forums - Bank charges templates (consumer)

Hi just looked at my credit file again and see that I've already paid £110 off the debt. The original credit limit was £400 and its charges that brought the debt to over £700. I know the debt was sold as thats who I was repaying the money to.I havent paid any in ages so not sure of who owns the debt.
Who should I contact about the debt, because all the amount was charges I feel I should only owe £290. Also I want to get the default removed because this was due to bank charges only. In what order should I try to sort the debt? Should I only write about the default once I've got the money to clear the outstanding?
    thanks for all your help

    Hi AP,

Send off the SARicon with £10 fee to get your a/c statements (unless you have them all). Then you can see what charges have been added to the a/c.

Send it to BC or, if you know the debt has been sold, to the new creditor.

Who do you think now owns the debt.

I found a letter from Apex from over a year ago but not had any contact with them since.I've typed a letter direct to bc that I was going to send this morning.I've used the template for claiming back charges and having the default removed.I've also asked for a copy of the original signed default.
I've said once the charges are removed + what I've already paid off is deducted I will then settle the remainer of the balance.
    Is this ok?
    cheers for your help

I've also asked for a copy of the original signed default.
Do you mean default, or the credit agreement you signed.

If the latter, you need to request this with the CCA request letter - http://www.consumerforums.com/resour...request-letter

    Anyway, see how they reply.
