Thread: Message from National Union of Students - Social Policy Unit - re-short term financial difficulties

We have been in contact with the head of social policy of the NUS. We are putting up the folowing message on their behalf.

The National Union of Students urges any student who is experiencing delays in the processing of their student finance applications, or any other financial difficulty, to seek advice at their students' union or university or college advice centre. Your university or college may be able to offer you a short-term, interest-free loan or even a non-repayable grant through the hardship fund (usually called the Access to Learning Fund in England, although the names may be different elsewhere), and the advice centre can help you to apply for these.

It is probably fair to say that the NUS or your UNiversity or College may not always be able to come up with the help that you think that you need - but you should consider that they are your first stop if you find yourself in difficulty.

We would recommend that you do NOT under any circumstances get involved with short term lenders.
This is the slippery slope to depression and ruin.
Even if your college or your local NUS is unable to provide you with the short-term funding which you think you need, they will certainly be there for you to talk to about your problems and your needs.
