Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
As if i don't have enough problems with Clark/ Citroen about this car, I just found out that they, Arnold Clark, have shafted me good and proper to the extent that i have now no warranty on an 08 plate car.
The car was pre registered and i knew i would lose a few months manufacturers warranty since warranty commences on day of registration.
What Clark didn't tell me was that service intervals began at same time, and by time car reached 1st year it had only done 4000mls. It's ironic that car was back in Clarks garage at this time and no one mentioned service.
Since car was not serviced prior to 12 months old then Citroen will not honour warranty. (12months or 12500 mls).
To add insult to injury, Clark operate a system of contacting customers to arrange servicing. Since mid September they have hassled me to agree a date for service, which will be within 12months of my owning the car and also under 12500mls.
What am i to do????
I don't think a manufacturer can get out of a warranty that easily unless they can demonstrate that the particular warranty fault can be directly related to the fact the car missed/was late on a service.
I have had warrant faults done on a car recently, which I bought 2nd hand (from about 400 miles away), it was nearly 3 years old, 55,000 miles on the clock and I had no idea of it's service history. My local vauxhall garage didn't even ask about it's service history, they were just simply happy that it was less than 3 years old and under 60,000 miles therefore the fault was covered.
Welcome to the family of disgruntled A Clark customers.
Did you know there's a whole series of web sites dedicated to this garage chain?
We got a company car (a £37k Volvo C70) through a Scottish leasing company who foolishly choose AC Aberdeen as supplying dealer.
The "brand new" car arrived filthy, with dents and scratches, muddy footprints on the cream leather seats and a child's toy on the boot (?)
Intriguingly the PDI was signed off before the delivery date to the dealer and at a higher mileage than shown on the odometer.
When it came back from AC's Stirling bodyshop for remedial work the seat heaters had stopped working and one fog light was broken, it had gained a couple of new dents and the leather on the drivers door panel was torn.
We had to go to Volvo UK to get things fixed and they suggested Taggarts Volvo in Glasgow who sorted everything out properly.
They also discovered (at 7,000 miles) that the transit packing put into the suspension at the factory had been left in the drivers side front spring. This is a major safety issue and an important part of the PDI. Taggarts technician suggested that if that simple and obvious part of the process hadn't been done he was uncomfortable about the rest being done either so he re-PDI'd the car and found several other items requiring attention.
Whilst Volvo UK fell over themselves to help, AC wouldn't even admit it was their fault. Needless to say we've never been back and advise everyone we meet to do go elsewhere.
Yes Rickyd, there are hundreds of people being ripped off by clark, but only the knowledgable ones post on the many websites. Many others who say they are pleased with clark are possibly driving cars that are faulty but they just don't know it. My next door neighbour claims he has not had trouble with clark, but has never been in a position of having to refer his car back to them, or he would have experienced their nonchalent attitude towards the very people who fill their wage packets. This guy only puts petrol in his car and it is seldom washed---like him!!!
The big question is why can't this outfit be stopped? No one seems to be able to touch these rougues, inc TS. Perhaps if we all complained to the OFT they would act, but i know from previous experience that they only act when there are SEVERAL complaints made against a firm.
I have just started my own mini campaign--got notices printed in clarks colours (arnold clark) and others to go along side his name in red, saying NEVER AGAIN. I intend to park car in promonent places and outside clarks garages to try and embarras them--you never know.
PS. Guy up the road bought a pre reg. honda from clark and they notified him when car was due in for first service ie. just before 12 mths after registration. So what happened to mine??
try googling "arnold clark sucks" you'll find that we are definitely not alone!
It's really enlightening and includes several entries from employees too. You may never look at one of those bl**dy yellow stickers in the same way again.
I often wonder what would have happened if our Volvo had been in an accident and the Police found the suspension was partially jammed by something that should have been removed before delivery?
Only Citroen can void or limit the warranty, what have they got say about it?
Holding Arnold Clark responsible is a bit much for your not in effect reading the manual.
Presuming that you got a warranty/service book with the car, what does it say in that about the terms and conditions of the warranty? Whilst there, you could read the bit about the service intervals. Annual servicing is not a new concept and remember (because AC might not tell you) that the car will be due for a MOT test not later than 3 years from the date of registration, not from the purchase date.
The only time I have ever have service histories requested for warranty claims are for goodwill (warranty recently expired) payments or for import vehicles.
J66, clark operate a system wherebye THEY contact the punter when service is due---see my thread on neighbour with Honda.
When questioned about this by TS they adopted their standard practice of Stonewalling. terms and conditions of service contract have been treated similarly when queried by TS. Why should i contact ****roen about this---it's clark's C===UP?
Heliosuk mentions spanner showing on dashboard. Very strangely, a couple of days ago, a message appeared "arrange service" and spanner shows now, but this is the very first time this message has shown since i got the car. Now this begs the question--has computer been reset and when?
Its deeply worrying that Arnold Clark now own Harry Fairbairn BMW. The long established family business had a great reputation but no its owned by the great white ghost and no doubt will change its operating methods to bring them into line with the rest of the group.
This acquisition does far more for the Arnold Clark brand than AC does for BMW.
I wonder how many unsuspecting car buyers will realise they are dealing with AC?
Believe me Parks motor group East kilbride are no better,
they are all [problem]ming to get money off the general public.
Utterly disgusting tactics
Up until a week ago i would have been surprised at your comments as Parks of Hamilton were at one time regarded as the countries premier coach operator.
Having said that, i have read a couple of groans about their car sales business, and they didn't appear to survive long in Fife.
But now we see that their Gaffer seems to have accumulated enough cash to buy Rangers from "scrappie" Murray---question is, where do all these guys get their money from???
rickyd, you live in Glasgow, so i hope you have joined the club and drive around with the arnold clark sticker in your rear window---followed by NEVER AGAIN in red!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT? AC have got a BMW dealership?
No wonder why BMG AG posted a massive downturn in profits yesterday and forecast a long recovery I will allege.
Time to bring these out of the cellar and back into the daylight
