    Default Barclaycard - Amazing

    Hello,

I am one of those people who have a cashback Barclaycard after the Morgan Stanley one ended. Thought I'd just mention some of the pitfalls I've experienced. I'd mention here that I was refused a Barclaycard when I applied for one so getting it this way (and being a founder member LOL) was 'nifty' on my part.
So initially the APR was 15.9% and alas it just had to happen they increased it to 20.9%. A sharp letter expressing my disbelief at their actions as I'd done nothing wrong brought a swift response saying it was going back to 15.9% which made me smile.
Moving the clock forward to more recent times ... I use their online service which is hopelessly flawed! If you want to speak to anyone it's 'India' direct where I think they have people who have little idea of the UK. I asked the man why on the contact page if you have a Platinum card (which I don't) they get a free phone 0800 number but otherwise it chargeable 0844 for the rest of us. His response was that I was mistaken and no calls to Barclaycard are free. Enter my reply which I'll not type here!
So my account went over the credit limit by 5p and a charge of £12 was levied. I was tearing this poor man to pieces and leaving him no option but to refund the £12! I then removed my threat to 'tell the world on line' what they had done.
Now we go back to their online operation. They show you a minimum payment which in my case somewhere around £8 BUT if you paid that then you'd be knocked for £12 for not being enough and £12 for over limit. They make no mention of interesticon so simply don't include it. To me I believe as a secure site it means they cannot make these 'over limit &/or minimum payment charges when their own information to you is inaccurate. I'm sure someone here might make comment on that and the legality of it?

    Hi IS,

The bottom line here is that ANY penalty charge which they add to your account for whatever reason can be reclaimed, in full with interesticon.

I don't quite get what you mean - if you make the min. pay't and then you get hit with a charge.

Please explain if I'm missing the point, as it's a bit late.

They WANT you to pay the £8 minimum so they can slap another £12 charge on to you.

Sneaky, eh? But thats the scummy business they are in.

    LOL
Okay if you have a Barclaycard you can do everything on line with it. They show minimum payment for your next payment. E.g. In my case £7.53 to be paid by 2nd November 2009. Well that sounds brilliant BUT they have not included ANY interest within that amount or reflected should you be near your credit limit. That also takes no account of any purchases.
So in my case I owe say £2,990 with a limit of £3,000. If I pay what they say is the minimum amount of £7.53 I'll then owe £2992.47. However they would add interest of say £37.50 so that would mean that (1) I'd in fact have not paid enough because I have to pay the minimum amount PLUS the interest and (2) I'll now have gone over my limit. That would reflect in 2 x £12 charges making me now owe £3053.97! That figure is the interest and fees. I can always do a scan of what I mean.
Now the comment that you can reclaim is not as such always valid. I did what I did because I considered myself to be both treated unfairlyicon (in my case) and also given false information (as shown above). Notwithstanding this will be reflected on the CRA files (because I was 5p over limit) which I consider unjust.

    '
noomill060' - NO PPIicon (thank god). Remember it would be 2 x £12 (over limit and not enough payment) slapped on charges and a cause to 'up' the APR eventually with a perfect excuse.

Thanks IS for the explanation. No scan is necessary.

Regardless of how penalty charges are incurred, they can be reclaimed in full.

The answer here is to pay what is required according to your monthly statement, and ignore estimates shown on-line.

You could send off a CCA request seeking sight of the credit agreement and/or a SARicon which will give you details of penalty charges over the last 6 yearsicon, which can be reclaimed.

Thank you for that. Actually I think in the MS days prior to Barclaycard I was given some penalty charges so your advice is appreciated.
