If an insurance policy is sold and paid for upfront and is later on cancelled should the insurer not offer some kind of rebate rather than keep the money when no longer offering a service?

Hello James,
sorry about the delay in responding to your question.
Yes indeed if you have paid upfront for a single premium policy (Now outlawed by the FSA and Competition Commissioners Office) then you should be entitled to a pro rata rebate on the outstanding PPI. You may not get a refund of what you expect but you should get a refund.

I ask as the company in question said they are not giving me anything back as i did not cancel within their 14 day cooling off period. So now i have paid £399 for a policy that is no longer active and am having to pay a further £499 in interest to Blackhorse.
I just see this as unfair just because i didnt say i didnt want the policy within 14 days.
