    Default Mortgage Mayhem, Advice Please

    Hello

Me and my wifes mortgageicon is due for re-newal in december, so we have been phoning around a few companies for quote. My wife called A & L asked for a quote and got some information sent out. Since then we found a better deal with RBSicon so have started the paperwork with them.
Today I recieved a letter from A & L telling me that the 14 cooling off period had been reached and as we have not contacted A & L to turn down thier quote so it would now go ahead. I called them to find out what was happening and they tell me there is nothing they can do, I either have to go with A & L and pay £800 per month for the next 2 years, or pay the £5000 early repayment charge (for a mortgageicon that doesn`t start until Dec) then pay £400 per month to RBS.
The RBS option actually works out cheaper in the long run but that £5000 that I don`t have and money is tight, we are also going through our 2nd attempt at IVF at the moment so if it works this time we will have another expence this time next year.
When my wife spoke to A & L I am sure they would have explained the cooling off period, I fairly sure they didn`t do anything wrong, but for some reason my wife answered "yes" to a question and didn`t take in the information that she was being told.
A manager from A & L are going to be calling me back so I can hear the call between them and my wife, not sure if it will do any good though.

If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appretiated, I`m in a real mess if I can`t stop this.

    Thankyou

Did you sign the paperwork and return it to them?

    Hello

No, no paperwork, we were with A & L for our current mortgageicon, they say because of this they don`t need any paperwork signed, the phone conversation between them and my wife is legal.

They just called me back and played the recording between them and my wife, unfortunatly for me it is as clear as day that they explained the 14 day cooling off period to my wife and she said "OK".

Think I`m stuffed on this occasion.
