    Default Renault engine failure

    Hi,

Having major issues with my car.

Big end bearings gone and damaged crank. I've owned car from new and had it serviced properly etc. Car just out of Warranty. Renault kindly offered 50% of repair, had to be done by dealer, Quote of £4000, so £2000 cost for me. An Independant garage quoted £1500 for the repair so I don't want to pay the £2000.

I have sent the standard letter from ConsumerDirect to the finance company to see if they will help.

Basically the question is, can I go ahead and get the repair done by the Independant garage before hearing from the finance company? I really need my car fixed.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    What is the mileage?
Has the engine been stripped down?

    Hi,

Car has done just over 67000 miles.

Just had the Sump off at the moment to diagnose.

Initial diagnosis was from an independant garage the car was first towed to.

Costs seem well over the top to me, even from Renault for a short engine which is what is needed by your description. V6 by any chace? Wouldn't do anything untill you have in writing who is paying for what.

    1.5 DCI.

Renault have offerred to pay for half new engine. Not cheap but I think my best option.

Can't go down the HP route as finance is still in ex wife's name and will be sorted as part of divorceicon settlement.

Ok, this is quite good news, as Renault have effectively admitted liability. The problem being is that most manufacturers test and sign off to 150K miles.

The short engine is as described, a block, pistons, crank and oil pump. If the engine has failed due to low oil pressure then the head will have been affected to a certain extent as well.

I'd go back and ask for 65% contributionicon based on mileage.

What has to be remembered is that the more miles a car does, the less likely a failure is due to a manufacturing defect.
