Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I collected my new Mazda6 on Wednesday 23 September 2009 from Autoworld, a part of the Co-op.
Although it was a new for old on a total loss, I had to pay for it myself as the dealer had "forgotton" to invoice my insurance company. The insurance company, Saga, had placed the order on 20 August and at that time stressed to the dealer the need to get the invoice back to them on time. They did in fact receive it on the day I collected the car.
The insurance company need 10 -14 days to issue a cheque and then the dealer has to clear it before I get my money back. It looks as though I have loaned someonr £16,000 +
I am not criticizing Saga in any way, they have behaved faultlessly, but I find it incredible that a main dealer should treat its customers thusly.
I have of course written to the C.E.O. of the Co-op, copied to Mazda, and am busy telling my story on the net, but, what would have happened if I had been unable to raise the money, I am due to drive to Spain in just over a week.
if you could not and you were covered by your insurer then could not they have provided a loan car? which I pressume they were until your new car was ready.
The accident happened in Spain. My insurance cover does not include hire abroad. Also, insurance companies usually restrict loan cars to 14 days, I had been without a car for over three months.
As I have said, the accident happened in Spain. I will further repeat, my insurance company does not provide loan cars abroad.
The case is going to court, and so far the third party's insurers have not admitted liability. Perhaps they will not do so until the case is heard. However, as the car which hit me was overtaking a police car I expect to be adequately compensated in due course.
Perhaps you should have taken out additional cover such as AA 5*? but if you insured for every eventualaliy then costs would be prohibitive to do anything.
