Default Alliance and Leicester £75 bank charge... Where do i stand when i blame them?

At the beginning of the month I got married, a gorgeous day and indeed a happy one.

We went to all the banks we are with and changed the details. HSBCicon did this in 3 days. we were told our new cards would be with us shortly.

But Alliance and Leicester seemed to stalled, 1 weeks passed and we went to the branch (a different one) they said they rang head office who hadn't received anything???

reassuringly they faxed the marriageicon certificate to head office and said the changes would be made before we went on honeymoon.

another week passed and we went to the branch to cash cheques (to the sum of £1500 approx) The account hadn't been changed and we were informed if we tried to cash the cheques we would be charged £25 per cheque that bounced on the technicality the name wasn't correct on the system.

Two weeks passed (the honeymoon) and i return to a £25 overdrawn charge and £5 per day 10 days = £50 total £75 for being £10 overdrawn?

The thing is I had money to pay in but had no card (awaiting the name change) and for 4 weeks I tried to cash cheques? As I was on honeymoon i didn't have access to the internet to transfer funds nor receive any letters to notify me of an overdrawn balance.

I'm now stressed because the money we had to start afresh married life together is being drained away in bank charges.

Can anyone help me, advise me??

    Thanks in advance!!

You need to register a formal complaint and advise that you will go to the Ombudsmen unless you get satisfaction.

Life is negotiation so I'd be shooting for the charges refunded and something for your time/the hassle at what should be a happy time.

Lay out the facts, got married, sent info to everyone and they all managed to change it except A & L, copy was faxed from branch in addition to this.

Still go charged, no means to avoid charges.

Put all that down, don't use emotional language, but in this case I would make reference to the marriageicon as it makes the bad service worse in my view.

Let us know how you get on. You shouldn't have to go to the fosicon, who I believe would find in your favour, because A & L know it costs them several hundred pounds just for the FOS to look at it.

You could try speaking to them on the phone but this I cannot recomment, in most organisations the people on the phone don't have the authority to sort anything out.

The views I express here are mere speculation based on my experience. I am not qualified nor insured to give legal advice and any action you take will be at your own risk.
